Reebok Teams Up with Justin Mensinger to Promote Mental Fitness and Ambition
Through its inclusive Reebok Collective initiative, Reebok is proud to partner with upcycling expert Justin Mensinger in bringing awareness to mental health. Mensinger is most famous for his upcycled design work; he's crowned the champion of streetwear design competition The Hype. To him, his work is a form of artistry. The 'Piece of Us' collection for Reebok includes six designs sensitive to the environment, donning messages for mental health awareness, and created from repurposed patches coming from wardrobes provided by active Reebok Collective members.
These sweaters will be auctioned off in January through the impact marketplace Charity Buzz, and all the proceeds will go to benefitting Reebok's nonprofit partner, Boks. The two brands are teaming up to defeat negative body image by inspiring youth to incorporate exercise and healthy living into their everyday lifestyles.
"I'm looking to create bits within this collection that are strong, but have an identity of their own," Mensinger said in a news release. "Every garment—once alive with the energy and fashion of a previous owner—comes together to tell a new tale and becomes a new garment for someone else to cherish. I've added inspiring quotes from our Reebok Collective members to provide universal reminders for us all."
In celebration of the collection's launch, Reebok produced a video about how the sweaters were uniquely crafted. The film includes interviews with members of the Reebok Collective who talk about their views on and experiences with the clothing as it relates to mental health. Sweaters will be auctioned off, and whoever can take the highest bid for each sweater gets to take it home; that money will directly go to support Boks. An additional pledge of $50,000 will come from Reebok to provide ongoing support for Boks.
